The winners of the World Beer Cup were announced on Thursday, May 5, 2022 in Minneapolis, MN, as part of this year’s Craft Brewers Conference. The World Beer Cup competition was launched by the Brewers Association in 1996 to celebrate brewing and brewers across the world and is often referred as “The Olympics of Beer Competitions”. It is typically held every other year, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 awards were canceled, meaning that the last time these awards were given out was in 2018. The 2022 World Beer Cup was the largest competition to date, with 10,542 entries from 2,493 breweries representing 57 countries. This year’s competition resulted in 307 medals awarded across 103 categories with 252 medals coming from breweries located in the United States, 14 from Canada, and 11 from Germany as the country with the top medal earners. Colombia saw its first-ever World Beer Cup win this year from Pola Del Pub, Bogotá, for its “Saison Con Miel” Specialty Saison entry.

Photo by Bryant Vander WeerdA special shoutout to Competition Director, Chris Swersey, who will now be departing the Brewers Association after overseeing 30 competitions including 20 GABF and 10 World Beer Cup competitions. Swersey, who’s wry wit when announcing medal winners throughout the years received a standing ovation for his final act with the BA.

“The World Beer Cup showcases the incredible breadth and talent of the global brewing community,” said Chris Swersey, competition director, World Beer Cup. “Winning an award at this extremely competitive event symbolizes one of the greatest accomplishments in the art of brewing. Congratulations to this year’s winners on their outstanding achievements.”
