Redevelopment Authority gives tour of Erie Malleable Iron Co. complex

State, federal and local officials donned hard hats for a recent tour of the former Erie Malleable Iron Co. complex on the southwest corner of West 12th and State streets.

David Brennan, an architect with Bostwick Design Partnership, who helped lead the tour along with Chris Groner, vice president of capital and financing for the authority, told participants about plans for the five-acre complex, which has seen only limited use since EMI closed in 2001. Tia Sumner, project manager for the Redevelopment Authority, said much of the environmental cleanup has already occurred. Demolition of a portion of the project is expected to begin soon.

But at least one local official is not on board with the project.
