Deep-hole drills have HiPIMS coating

MAPAL has introduced the MEGA-Deep-Drill-Steel series of drills for deep drilling of steel and cast iron.

The solid-carbide drills are protected by a HiPIMS coating on the cutting edge. The head coating also helps ensure frictionless chip removal and is beneficial for the reliable production of deep bores. The remaining length of the drills is uncoated. Double Spindle Drilling Machine

Spherical cutting edges provide a high level of stability and help lengthen tool life and improve productivity. The point angles were selected so that the deep drills always start the cut with the chisel in the pilot bore.

These tools are available in length ratios of 15xD to 40xD and a diameter range of 3 mm to 16 mm, with the long designs up to 9 mm. Adapted pilot drills also are available for difficult drilling conditions.

According to the manufacturer, these drills create deep holes without using a pecking cycle at high feed rates. The tools are suitable for use with internal cooling and also for minimum quantity lubrication.
